Polymeric Receptors for Environmental Remediation |
I am a research technician within the chemistry department and am now studying part-time for a PhD qualification in Dave Smith's research group. I am particularly interested in environmental chemistry, and with this in mind, we are developing a series of novel polymers which will bind to key pollutants, such as heavy metals, radioactive elements etc. Such polymers would be appropriate for use as filter beds to assist with the purification of effluent streams from industry. They may also be of use to the water industry. In partcular, we are hoping to use a unique combinatorial approach to effectively 'evolve' effective and highly selective receptors attached to the polymer supports.
