Catechol based anion receptors |
Jerome’s (Erasmus Student – Strasbourg) project involves the exploitation of phenolic systems as anion receptors and sensors. He is involve in the synthesis of new multidentate ligands for anions, with pre-organised cavities, which will show high anion binding affinities and selectivities. Furthermore, he is investigating their ability to bind and sense anions using NMR, UV-Vis and fluorescence methods. We hope that the types of molecules developed in this project will have applications in the binding and sensing of chloride anions – a key medicinal target which is implicated in the progress of serious diseases such as cystic fibrosis.
