Gel-Phase Materials |
I did my undergraduate degree in York and my final year project in Dave's research group. My PhD project has involved designing multi-component gelation systems. Such systems have a wide range of applications. For example, one of the components can act as an additive which breaks down the gel into a sol, and hence the gel can act as a selective sensor. Alternatively, by mixing two components together, gelation can occur spontaneously in situ - rapid simple organogelation of this type has applications in oil spill remediation. I am also interested in the effect of chirality within multi-component systems - with the goal of gaining a fundamental insight into self-assembly processes.
