37. WYSIWITYS - what you see is what I think you see

If I can't tell you're looking through a camera on my desk, I might do something to embarrass us both. WYSIWIS has been found to be restrictive (early COLAB work) but unrestricted relaxation also caused problems. (Shared and non-shared windows created confusion). So we need to make systems that give cues about what participants are seeing.

Example(s): Buxton's hydra, Saul Greenberg's awareness tools (radar view) 3D spaces with avatars that indicate direction of gaze.
