The correlation between phonological awareness and reading ability is investigated in a study of 65 nine year olds. A test of reading ability, a test of phonological awareness and a test of intelligence are administered. Reading ability is predicted by phonological awareness as hypothesised (r = .67), however there is also a correlation between intelligence and phonological awareness (r = .42).
