1.00 - 1.30 Performance by Full Body and the Voice - a unique company of learning disabled actors

1.30 - 2.30 Invited speaker: Graham Pullin and Matthew Marsh (IDEO) "Marketing the excluded user"

2.30 - 2.45 Introduction to the design laboratory format - the task for this afternoon

Groups will be give a full written brief. They are to identify: excluded user groups and the issues facing these people that they feel are most relevant to the design of mobile technologies. They are then to choose one user group and one issue that they will focus on the next day.

2.45 - 3.30 Break into groups

3.30 - 4.00 Tea

4.00 - 5.00 Group work continues

5.00 - 6.00 Groups report back (plenary)

7.30 for 8.00 Dinner, Beetties Restaurant - their world famous Tapas Evening

 

Thursday 15 June

9.00 - 9.15 The design laboratory format - the task for today

Again groups will be given a full written brief for the day. They are to: further develop their descriptions of the issue and user group they are pursuing; to consider the advantages and disadvantages of candidate technologies; sketch and realise designs

9.15 - 10.00 Lindsay Etchell (RICA) "What do older and disabled consumers want?"

10.00 - 11.00 Break into groups

To consider how what Lindsey has said affects their descriptions of the issue and user group they are pursuing

11.00 - 11.30 Coffee

11.30 - 12.15 Alan Newell (Applied Computing, University of Dundee) "Technology for extraordinary users"

12.15 - 5.00 Break into groups

To consider what Alan has said informs their discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of candidate technologies
To sketch candidate designs
To realise a design concept

Buffet lunch available 1.00 to 2.00
Tea available 3.30 - 4.00

5.00 - 6.00 Groups report back (plenary)

Each group will share the ideas leading to their final design concept

7.30 for 8.00 Dinner afloat

 

Friday 16 June

9.00 - 9.30 Set up exhibition

9.30- 10.30 View exhibition

Each group are asked to prepare a critique of the other designs drawing out similarities with their own work and further possibilities

10.30 - 11.00 Coffee

11.00 - 1.00 Final Plenary
