Novel Free-Radical Cyclisation Methods for the Efficient Formation of Substituted Pyrrolidines

The project will investigate the preparation of various N-protected pyrrolidines and related heterocycles using free-radical methods. Of particular interest is the use of inexpensive non-metal radical reagents, and a water-based solvent system. This includes the use of bisulfites and phosphorus hydrides.

Proposed reaction scheme

An important aim of the research is to develop methodology that can allow the preparation of 5- and 6- membered rings bearing a variety of functionality (i.e. the Y and Z groups shown above).
