
David has personal interest in speech and music, and he plays the pipe organ and sings in church choirs and other vocal groups on a regular basis.
David is also involved from time to time in forensic speech and music analyses, and acts as the Musical Director for the Beningborough Singers
His professional interest in speech and music, as well as electronics is demonstarted by his work. As well as being the Head of the Media Engineering Research Group in the Department of Electronics he teaches in music technology with colleagues from both the Department of Electronics and the Department of Music.
His main research interests include the analysis and synthesis of singing, speech and music
His main lecturing activities are to students reading for degrees in Music Technology (BA, BSc, MEng, MA, MSc Diploma) and Electronic Engineering with Music Technology Systems (MEng, BEng). His main subject areas include: acoustics and psychoacoustics, human perception of sound, singing special interest group, ECAD work for designing signal processing systems for music technology, audio coding for multi-media systems, speech processing, and speech and singing synthesis techniques.
