The Italian Process called Verbalizzazione
This is very much an Italian process. As I write these words, I am not aware of any
other country in the world that uses such a procedure. However, if you are aware of some
country that uses a similar system please let me know.
What is verbalizzazione? After the mark of a student on an exam has been decided, the following
procedure is implemented:
- The professor completes an entry in what is known as the verbale. To complete the entry, the
professor needs to write:
- The matriculation number of the student,
- The name and surname of the student,
- The date of the verbalizzazione,
- The student's mark on the exam,
- The questions that were asked of the student,
- The Professor must sign,
- Up to two of the Professor's colleagues must sign,
- The student must sign,
- and there is a space for comments.
- Then a document called the statino must be completed. It contains most of the
information entered into the verable.
- Then a document called the libretto must be completed. Fortunately,
this just contains the name of the exam, the date and the professor's signature.
The verbale and the statino then go to some administrator who checks them. If they are not correct in some
detail, then there is the danger that the mark given to the student for that exam is not legal.
