A little bit about me

As from the 1st of October 2010 I am returning to be full-time Professor of Economics and Statistics and Director of EXEC, the Centre for Experimental Economics, at the  University of York in the UK. I have resigned from my position as Professore Ordinario at LUISS in Italy, with my resignation taking effect from the end of September 2010. I was Editor of the Economic Journal from 1986 to 1996. My main research interests are in the economics of decision making under risk and uncertainty (both static and dynamic) and in Experimental Economics. With regard to the latter I was the co-founder (wuth Graham Loomes) of EXEC, the Centre for Experimental Economics at the University of York, and I am now returning to direct it full-time. With Daniela Di Cagno of LUISS we established CESARE, Centro di Economia Sperimentale A Roma Est, with the generous support of Deloitte. This is one of the few experimental economics laboratories in Italy. From 2001 to 2004 I was European Vice-President of the Economic Science Association (the association of experimental economists). In 2006 I organised (with Daniela Di Cagno and others from LUISS) the Twelfth FUR Conference at LUISS. In 2007 we organised the ESA World Meeting 2007 at LUISS in Rome. In 2008 we organised IAREP 2008.

Research

In 2004 to 2006 I was on research leave from the University of York - having been awarded by the ESRC a 28 month Research Fellowship. This project has its own Home Page. For the academic year 2006/2007 I was again on Research Leave from the University of York, financed by a grant on pensions with the Department for Work and Pensions of the UK Government. This project is now completed and the report is available. I have also been coordinator of a MIUR-financed research project on dynamic decision making, and the coordinator of a further MIUR-financed research project on decision making under ambiguity. My recent papers are downloadable. If you have any trouble downloading the papers from this, you should go instead to the Departmental Discussion Papers Page. Let me know if you have any problems.

Teaching

At York I teach Graduate Experimental Economics and Undergraduate Introduction to Experimental Economics . At LUISS I used to teach Microeconomics . I used my text Intermediate Microeconomics, a description of which can be found here, which was published in English by McGraw-Hill and is published in Italian by Aracne. You might find interesting a page highlighting the problems of working within the Italian Examination system.
