Suggested answer to exercise: Alcohol consumption and sex, 1

Question 1: What kind of graph is this and what are its main features?

Suggested answer

This shows two histograms, showing the frequency distribution of reported alcohol consumption for 101 females and 76 males. The histograms are on the same scale, enabling us to compare the distribution of alcohol consumption easily. Both distributions are highly skew to the right.

The upper tail of the distribution for men appears longer than for women, suggesting that the highest consumption is reported by some men.
