This is a scatter diagram.

The horizontal axis shows abdominal circumference in centimetres and is numbered 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120. The vertical axis shows residual body mass index in kilogrammes per square metre and is numbered –8, –4, 0, 4, and 8.

There is little sign of a relationship bewteen abdominal circumference and residual body mass index, though it may be that small and large abdominal circumference is related to slightly larger residual body mass index than is abdominal circumference in the centre of the range. For abdominal circumference = 50, residual body mass index ranges from –4 to +5. For abdominal circumference = 80, residual body mass index ranges from –5 to +4. For abdominal circumference = 110, residual body mass index ranges from –3 to 6.
