Read a press release issued by the Ministry of Information (UAE) about the most recent publication by ADIAS (The Abu Dhabi Islands Archaeological Survey) of the 1992 archaeological survey of Dalma, Sir Bani Yas and Marawah. 15 June 1998 Presented a paper at the day seminar on Sasanian Agriculture and Technology - New Directions of Research, organised by Dr. St. John Simpson, (formerly of the Department of Western Asiatic Antiquities - now known as the Middle East department), British Museum, entitled: "Fishing and marine exploitation in south-east Arabia: evidence from the Late Sasanian and Early Islamic periods". 29 June - 3 July 1998 Attended the Fourth International Conference of ICAZ Working Group - ASWA (Archaeozoology of South West Asia and Adjacent Areas), held at the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. I presented a paper entitled: "Preliminary report on the faunal remains from Dalma, an Ubaid settlement in Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates". To read the abstract of this paper click here. 16-18 July 1998 Attended the Seminar for Arabian Studies at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL, London. 23-30 August 1998 Attended the ICAZ (International Council of Archaeozoology) conference, held at the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, where I presented a paper entitled: "Ancient fishing strategies in the southern Arabian Gulf: regional modelling of species association and biometric data", within the session: "Current Topics in South Asian and Gulf Archaeozoology" (Chair: William Belcher, Tuesday August 25, 1998). To read the abstract of this paper click here. 18 September 1998 Visited Highgrove with Michael Stratton (sadly now deceased) and Sue Taylor of the Department of Archaeology, University of York, to meet HRH Prince Charles who officially launched the Regeneration Through Heritage website (now known as The Princes's Regeneration Trust). I did all the design, layout and HTML for the old Regeneration Through Heritage website, which formed the precursor to the above site. 15 October 1998 Redesigned layout of some of the pages. Updated my research bibliography, adding a searchable alphabetical index to top of page. 8 December 1998 Added a new paper to my publications list. The article concerns Islamic period fish bones from Jazirat al-Hulaylah and Julfar (Ras al-Khaimah, U.A.E.) and was recently published in the Bulletin of Archaeology of the University of Kanazawa. [
