Worked as part of the excavation team at site H3, as-Sabiyah, Kuwait, a 5th millennium BC settlement site located on the north coast of Kuwait Bay. The excavations are directed by Dr. Harriet Crawford and Dr. Robert Carter, Institute of Archaeology, University College, London.

1 April 2001

Read a press story by Richard Weekes entitled "Secrets of world's oldest boat are discovered in Kuwait sands". This article is about our discoveries at the as-Sabiyah site in Kuwait, and it appeared in both the Sunday Telegraph and Electronic Telegraph.

15-19 April 2001

I presented a paper at the First International Conference on Emirates Archaeology, entitled "The Development of Fishing in the UAE: a Zooarchaeological Perspective".  This was a conference organised by the Zayed Center for Heritage and History, in Abu Dhabi, with the co-sponsorship of the Ministry of Information and Culture of the United Arab Emirates.

20 April - 14 May 2001

Continued study of the animal bones from the Sasanian/Islamic tell of Kush at the National Museum of Ras al-Khaimah, as well as work in Abu Dhabi for the Abu Dhabi Islands Archaeological Survey (ADIAS) in the United Arab Emirates.

Successfully defended my Phd thesis in the Department of Archaeology at the University of York. My examiners were: Professor Terry O'Connor (Department of Archaeology, University of York) and Dr. Wim Van Neer (Royal Africa Museum, Tervuren, Belgium).

9 June 2001

I attended the York University Archaeology Society Annual Conference, where I presented a paper entitled: "Herding, Fishing, Pearling and Trading: Re-examining the Early Neolithic of the Arabian Gulf".

Graduation Ceremony at the University of York - The degree of Doctorate of Philosophy in Archaeology was conferred upon me by the Vice-Chancellor of York University, Professor Ron Cooke, BSc MSc PhD DSc FRGS.

Attended the Seminar for Arabian Studies at the Royal Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, where I presented a paper entitled: "In the Land of the Ichthyophagi: Modelling fish exploitation in the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman from the 5th millennium BC to the Late Islamic Period".

I attended the "The fifth millennium BC in the Near East" conference, where I co-presented a paper with Emily Glover entitled, "The environment and economy of an early 5th millennium BC site on Dalma island, UAE". This conference is being jointly organised by the University of Liverpool and Manchester (Sponsored by the British Institute of Archaeology at Ankara,  British School of Archaeology in IraqCouncil for British Research in the Levant  and  National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside).
