Instrument Development

The Surface Physics Group has a long tradition of instrument development work. From the early days of the establishment of the Physics Department at York the SPG has developed such unique instruments as the 2π electron diffractometer. More recent work includes the MULSAM instrument and the Hyperbolic Field Analyser. Development of such instruments helps to keep the group at the top of the research field and provides abilities not available anywhere else. The tradition is kept alive by the latest novel instrument under development, the metastable helium de-excitation apparatus.
