Other Games

This is for all those things that don't fit into another catagory, boardgames, Munchkin and anything else that I've forgotten about.

Settlers of Catan

2-4 Players
Average Rules
Average Strategy
The original game is fun to play but simple enough to learn quickly. A great game that everyone should play, whether they love strategy games or read fashion magazines (true story!). And finally, everyone gets an answer to why I keep those extra cards in the box!

Cities and Knights of Catan

2-4 Players
Challenging Rules
Challenging Strategy
You can't explain it in ten minutes, but its a lot of fun. Easier to learn if you've played the first game, but we've been known to throw people who are into games already off the deep end. Can be played with or without Seafarer's expansion, which doesn't really complicate things any more.

Carcassone

2-? Players
Simple Rules
Average/Challenging Strategy
A land control tile building game, and something of a classic. A great introduction to strategy games, some people's favourite, and some people prefer the more intricate. A must play. Multitude's of expansions.

Puerto Rico

3-5 Players
Challenging Rules
Very Challenging Strategy
A very complex and rewarding strategy game that can in fact be explained in ten minutes, but you will make mistakes your first time.

Caylus

2-? Players
Very Challenging Rules
Challenging/Very Challenging Strategy
Complicated beyond belief, but lots of fun. A must play for anyone who really enjoys strategy, and in this case, a bit of backstabbing competition.

Clans

2-5 Players
Simple Rules
Average Strategy
You can control every move of the game but in most groups no one has the first ten or so moves figured out. There are some low key fail safe strategy moves, but the nature of the game is to be enjoyable and have a chance to win even if you don't understand it. (It does depend who you're playing against.)

Betrayal At The House On The Hill

2-? Players
Simple Rules
Average Strategy
Tile building game with lots of scenarios, teamwork, and traitors. A fun match that causes limited confusion (and playing with D3's is entertaining).

Metro

2-6 Players
Simple Rules
Average Strategy
Building the longest train tracks, and cutting off your rivals. For a simple game people often spend a lot of time thinking about their moves, and its often hard to tell who is winning until the end.

The Amazing Labyrinth

2-4 Players
Simple Rules
Average Strategy
Trying to figure out the best approach isn't always scientific, but it does test your pattern recognition. A fun, simple, game.

Tripoly

3-8 Players (approx).
Simple Rules
Simple Strategy
A betting game (though we usually don't play for money) its highly chance based. Still, lots of people enjoy it, and although its usually played at homes rather than socials, feel free to ask if you'd like to give it a try.

Pictionary

2-8 Players, even number
Very Simple Rules
Very Simple Strategy
Again, often played at home, invites by request. A good laugh, though not everyone's cup of tea.

Balderdash

2-? Players
Very Simple Rules
Average Strategy
Requires a certain flair with words, and some people are masters of it. Limited in actual strategy approach, its an extremely funny game, and sometimes insanity is a bonus...

Fjords

2 Players
Average Rules
Average/Challenging Strategy
A land control tile building game, rewarding strategically but easy to pick up.

Backgammon

Average/Challenging Strategy
An old classic, but lots of fun. Have you played yet?

Chinese Checkers

Old classic, fun game. Still requires basic strategy, plus you get to play with marbles.

Mille Bournes

Simple Rules
Simple Strategy
Another, less old, classic. Technically a card game, but lots of fun and requires more minimal concentration.

Hex Hex

2-? Players
Average Rules
Average Strategy
Once you start making up rules it can get more complex. Comes with expansions, good for a laugh, and requires some careful planning. Technically a card game, and no rules about putting feet on the table, please!

Uno

? Players
Simple Rules
Very Simple Strategy
Another "classic" card game, we know a few versions and its all good fun.

Classic Card Deck

(The trick is organising people...)
Nomination Whist (House Rules)
Gin Rummy (2 players?)
Rummy
Hearts
Spades
Trumps
Euchre (4 Players)
The Shooting Game (2 Players)
Plus many others...
