Welcome to Year Five of Shattered Legacies LARP, a fantasy roleplay system run by a handful of volunteers who grown to love reffing their own contact LARP in York. We are strongly associated with the York University Science Fiction and Fantasy Society and since they supply us with kit, rooms and (most importantly) insurance, to play you must be a fully paid-up member.
Live Action Role Play is a hobby that involves heroic roleplaying and actually performing the the deeds of your character. Fundamentally, we believe that LARP adds a level of immersion often unattainable around a table-top. In Shattered Legacies, players will take on the role of The Knights of Ambala, men and women who risk their lives regularly in unpredictable situations for the chance of wealth, glory, the good of their city, or whatever else they think they can get. They are based in the city of Ambala, on the northernmost border of the Heartlands, an alliance of two city-states, at the edge of the unexplored Wild Lands. To ensure that everybody has as much fun as possible there is a system of rules designed to keep things fair and safe. Many of these rules are 'self-reffing' to maintain the number of out-of-character interactions with the referee team. If any help is needed the team of referees will be available to assist at most times.
Shattered Legacies is a twice weekly game, running a roleplay-intensive indoor Wednesday night session, and an outdoor combat-based session on Sunday afternoons. Wednesday night sessions will usually be set in the bar of the New Star Barracks, home to the Knights of Ambala. There characters may meet, discuss what has happened to them, what they have achieved, and what they plan to do next. Sundays will see characters journeying outside the city to enact some of these plans.
Much of this can seem very daunting at first. Remaining completely in-character for three or four hours in a night, when the setting is still new and strange, and the rules still don't make any sense - but we've all been there. If you ever need any help with anything, just ask. Everyone will be happy to explain or encourage, because at the end of the day we have to be working together to have fun.
The Rules Guide can be found here, and will clue you in on the details of how Shattered Legacies works, and what you need to know and bear in mind to play in the system.
The Setting Guide can be found here, and exists to illustrate for you the world in which Shattered Legacies is set - the cities of the world, the races and cultures which inhabit them, their history, the gods and goddesses, the kinds of magics which are known and practiced, and many other things of note.
We are most likely to be in L036 or L037 on Sundays from midday. For the rest of this term Wednesday evenings will be in G001, G002 and the surrounding area. This is in Old Goodricke (now part of James), where I believe Mathematics happens. Wednesdays start at 7pm, so please try to be there, kitted up and/or helping put the rooms together BEFORE then.
That right there is four fifths of the ref team of Shattered Legacies.
If you have any further questions about the game or you like what you hear and want to get started, you can contact these lovely people on:

Shattered Legacies has its own forum, which is somewhat more active than the general SF&F one. It may be found at http://z3.invisionfree.com/ShatLeg/ or http://www.tinyurl.com/ShatLeg/.
Charactersheets for active players are now available online at http://www.shattered-legacies.org/index.php. Please speak to a the ref team and generate a character before attempting to make an account here. The email address that you give them for your downtimes is that which you should sign up with (so that they know who you are).
