Interested in Starting Fencing?
University of York Students
For any York students who have never fenced before (or have only fenced a little), a beginners course is run during the Tuesday sessions, beginning in week 2 of the Autumn term. The course lasts until the end of the Autumn term, culminating in the annual beginners competition. A second beginners course will be running in the Spring term. The course covers the basics of foil fencing, including basic attacks and defense. By the end of the course, fencers should be able to fight each other, as well as some of the more experienced members of the club. Anybody who wants to take the course, or find out more, can come along to the first session in week 2 for a small one-off fee, or come along and find us in the sports centre at the freshers' fair on Saturday week 1. We will also have demonstrations at times throughout the day. Non-students
Because of the freshers' course in the Autumn term, non-student beginners are advised to avoid Tuesday sessions during the autumn term. This year, a non-students' beginners course is planned for saturday sessions starting week 2 (24th October). A second beginners course is usually held on Tuesdays throughout the second term, and is open to both students and non-students. For further information, please contact the club. |
