Annual Competitions

Every year we take part in two annual competitions, BUCS and Roses

BUCS (British University College Sports) Championships is an annual tournament that takes place around March every year. It's a competition between all the major Universities in the country for almost all sports.

The Roses Tournament is an annual sports competition between Lancaster University and the University of York. It takes its name from the 15th Century civil war, 'The Wars of the Roses', between the House of Lancaster and the House of York. YUSU and LUSU Student Union's take it in turn to organise the competition every year. In 2011, it's YUSU's turn, so the tournament will take place in York. For many years Roses has sparked a lot of rivalry between Lancaster and York, so get ready plenty of 'Lancaster are illegitimate' chants and other related banter!

BUCS and Roses are the two competitions that we spend all year training for! They are destined to be great weekends, with just as much socialising as playing of polo. It's also a great opportunity to meet other canoe polo players from different Universities.
