What Are Arbo-Stats?

{Logo}

Arbo-stats are a system of awarding points to cricketers for their part in the games of a season. Players are awarded points for bowling, batting and fielding. There is a ranking system for each of these catagories, and a ranking for the overall points awarded.

Bowling

We award points for economic bowling, attacking bowling and purely for bowling some overs at all. Each match in which a player bowls adds a contribution to his points rating given by

(Overs * 20 / Runs) + (10 * Wickets / Overs) + Overs

In the unlikely event that a bowler bowls a spell without conceeding a run, then Runs is set to 0.5.

Batting

We award points for the runs scored, the rate at which runs were scored and the balls faced. An innings where the batsman faces no deliveries is discounted.

(Runs / 5) + (6 * Runs / Balls) + (Balls / 12)

Fielding

The Fielding points are awarded for catches, runouts and stumpings. The points available depend on whether the fielder is the wicket-keeper or not. For the wicket-keeper the fielding points are

(5 * Catches) + (5 * Stumpings) + (3 * Runouts) + 5

Whereas for fielders they are

(3 * Catches) + (3 * Runouts)

Averages

Averages are computed only over innings in which the player took part. A bowler is not penalised for not bowling in an innings, nor is a batsman punished for not batting. Fielding averages are calculated over all innings in which the player fielded -- even if he does not make a catch etc.
