18 October 2003, "Exploring Sound": A series of interactive digital tools built using PD (Pure Data) for the exploration of sound properties, allowing us to question what pitch, loudness and tone are, what makes a chord consonant or dissonant, and how sound can trick us. SightSonic Digital Art Festival, York, UK.
Sept 2001 Masters Project and its continuation
The title of my Masters Project is "Composing with phonemes: the 'Phoneme' VST plug-in". I have coded a VST plug-in that synthesise vowel sounds. Various parameters can be controlled by the user: time and type of interpolation, vibrato rate and depth, singing formant, volume, frequency. Here you can find a three page summary paper (in .pdf format) explaining the idea behind this project. Here you can find the phoneme plugin to download, various images and sound examples. I have also programmed a MIDI controllable version of this plug-in called midi_phoneme.dll. You can find it here. Both these plug-ins are compiled only for PC at the moment. They have not been tested in all the possible systems, so if anybody tries them out and cannot make them work, please email me so i find out about unknown bugs and i can correct them.
