Although I have retired, I have not stopped thinking; I still wonder about topics related to technology, and to people. I just do not have access to any resources to carry out any research – not even undergraduates to do projects with me. I can think, though – and write. Thus, from time to time I will write something and put it on here, and will, of course, welcome comments and feedback.

URLs and Advertising
I am puzzled as to why any website owner would choose a long URL, which appears in their advertising. This paper discusses this – and comes to no conclusion.
Testing the November Alfa Tango Oscar Spelling Alphabet
We have all heard the (so-called) Nato phonetic alphabet, Alfa, Bravo, Charlie etc, but how were those particular words chosen, and how effective are they? I had a look at this. This was really just for my own amusement, but a colleague found it – and suggested that I submit a version of it for publication in the RadCom magazine. I did, and it was rejected. The feedback consisted of I enjoyed reading your article however it is not something that we are currently interested in publishing in RadCom.
