Study Kit – The Curriculum

Exactly what am I meant to be studying?

Students report that it’s easier to understand all the different course units if you have a clear idea of what is being taught in each one, and how they fit together.

So, if you really want to get the best out of the course, you would do well to study the Syllabus  (Click on the Syllabus links on the pages for Year 1 BSc and here for Year 1 B/MEng).

It’s a big document, but it tells you how the course is put together, and thus what to expect in each course unit.

It is made up of several sections:

• A table showing which modules (course units) are taken by each degree programme.

• Tables for each degree programme showing what modules are taken in each term.

• An entry for each module (arranged alphabetically) containing:

• Aims & Objectives (what this module is all about)

• Indicative Content (what you will be taught)

• Teaching Methods (what to expect in terms of lectures, workshops, notes etc.)

• Assessment (how you will be tested on this module – exam or assignment)

• Reading List (books that are recommended to complete your knowledge of this module)
