The 3D Sound Lab
Research
We are primarily interested in solving any of the practical difficulties
that currently hinder the widespread adoption of binaural audio.
The broad areas of our current work encompass:
-
non-acoustical methods for estimating head-related impulse responses very
rapidly, taking into account the individual shapes of listeners' heads
and ears;
-
low cost solutions for the perceptually accurate reproduction of binaural
sound;
-
efficient storage and transmission of binaural signals using psychoacoustically-informed
signal compression;
-
software tools for the manipulation of binaural audio signals.
