40. Gender neutrality / accommodates multiplicity
Many systems are not used by non-technical women users because in general
women are not encouraged to get their hands dirty with technology. If technologies
do not reflect gender differences but rather neglect their differences women
users tend to op out. I.e. technologies requiring lots of tinkering are
not gender neutral)
Example(s): Need to be aware of gender issues, ex. women's poverty relative
to men. Need to design systems for non-professional (not wealthy ) women
users. For example, design groupware for use on systems located in public
spaces poor women frequent, such as Laundromats.
