Due to the high volume of enquiries I receive, I am unable to provide personalised responses to every message. However, I hope the information provided below is helpful.
Research Positions and Internships¶
All available post-doctoral research positions and internship opportunities are posted on the University's jobs website and jobs.ac.uk. If there are no current listings on these sites, it means that no positions are available at this time.
PhD Positions¶
If you are interested in pursuing a PhD under my supervision and have been referred to this page, your initial message is likely missing some essential information. Please review the guidance on writing an introductory email and send a follow-up message addressing the missing points.
Common Omission: No Funding Plan
The most common omission is a plausible funding plan. If you are seeking funding from the University of York, please indicate which scholarship(s) you intend to apply for and why you believe you are eligible. Unfortunately, simply stating that you require funding from the University, without providing further details, does not constitute a feasible funding plan given the scarcity and competitiveness of University funding.
External Collaboration¶
Unfortunately, I have very little capacity for unfunded research collaboration. If you are interested in collaborating with our group, please provide details on how you believe the proposed work could be funded on both sides in a follow-up message.
Industry Advisory and Mentoring Requests¶
I occasionally receive requests from companies to act as a technical advisor, research mentor, or member of an advisory board. While I appreciate your interest, my existing commitments mean that I need to be selective about such engagements. If you would like to explore a formal advisory or mentoring arrangement, please provide a brief description of your company, the nature of the support you are seeking, the anticipated time commitment, and the proposed compensation.
