Question 1: Why are the results reported in the form of odds ratios?
This is a case-control study and so we cannot estimate risks or relative risks directly. However, odds ratios are unaffected by the relative numbers of cases and controls that we have, so they tell us something about the population. Also, we can investigate the effects of other variables, to see whether effects are independent, using logistic regression.
