A scatter diagram.
The horizontal axis is labeled "Variable X" and numbered 2, 4, 6, and 8. The vertical axis is labeled "Variable Y" and numbered 2, 4, 6, and 8. Each of the 50 observations is shown by a small diamond positioned at that subject's Variable X and Variable Y.
There is a strong relationship between X and Y. The points lie on a perfect curve. When X is small, the curve is almost hoizontal. As X increases, the curve rises more and more steeply.
When X = 3, Y = 2.5. When X = 5, Y = 3.5. When X = 7, Y = 7.
The correlation coefficient is r = 0.92.
