Workshop on Computational Intelligence

for Biomedicine and Bioinformatics

The application of computational intelligence (CI) and soft computing to Biomedicine and Bioinformatics has increased considerably over the past few years as its ability to solve complex and often highly non-liner problems is better understood.  The aim of this Workshop is to promote key examples of state-of-the-art applications of CI in this important discipline and considers the potential for use in routine laboratory and clinical practice.

This Workshop welcomes paper submissions on the application of CI and soft computing to any area of Biomedicine and Bioinformatics, including the following:

Genomics and Molecular Structure, Function and Evolution

- Next-Gen Sequencing and Metagenomics

- Evolution, Phylogeny, Comparative Genomics

- SNPs and haplotype analysis, GWAS

- Protein/RNA Structure, Function and Interactions

Computational Systems Biology

- Transcriptomics - Microarray Data Analysis

- Gene Regulation, Alternative Splicing, Network/Pathway Analysis

- Proteomics, PTMs, Metabolomics

- Epigenomics, non-coding RNA analysis, DNA methylation analysis

Medical Informatics and Translational Bioinformatics

- Biomedical Intelligence, Clinical Data Analysis, and Electronic Health Record

- Biomedical Signal/Image Analysis

- Genome-Phenome Analysis

- Biomarker Discovery

Healthcare Informatics

- diagnosis and monitoring
- medical imaging
- expert systems and patient support
- medical records data mining
- modelling and simulation

All submissions will be peer reviewed and accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and will be indexed in IEEE Xplore.

The Workshop will also include a special presentation on the application of evolutionary computation to problems in medicine, focused on two case examples and practical advice on getting started with computational intelligence techniques.

Prospective authors are invited to submit papers of no more than eight (8) pages in IEEE conference format, including results, figures and references. Further submission details will be posted on the main BIBM2014 web site in due course.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any queries.
