Admiral ( AD vanced M egastream I nternet R esearch project for AL vey) was a DTI-Alvey project in the mid-1980s, involving GEC-Marconi Research, UCL, and other partners. It was concerned with network and distributed systems management, including the security problems of linking together separate networks controlled by different administrations, allowing these administrations to maintain autonomy, to have differing access control policies, but to securely use each other's services.
