Transformational Novelty with an Automata Meta-Chemistry.

ALife 2026 Late-Breaking Abstracts, pp.96-98, 2026

Abstract:

Achieving open-endedness (OE), the continual production of novelty, in artificial systems is a goal of Artificial Life. Here we report on initial studies using an automata chemistry that can modify not only its code, but also its language. We build on the Physis system (ported from CPU to GPU for improved runtime), reproduce the original results, describe some new results, and suggest next steps.
