rating : 2 : great stuff
review : 5 November 1998

Another collection of adventures with the perpetually six-year old terror Calvin and his fertile imagination, and his stuffed tiger and constant playmate Hobbes. Featuring school teacher Miss Wormwood, dinosaurs, crazed snowmen, slushballs, and Hobbesian philosophy. Watch for the plate of food quoting Shakespeare and singing Feelings. Splendid.

More adventures with the six-year old terror Calvin and his fertile imagination, not least of which is his stuffed tiger and constant playmate Hobbes. More alien invaders, more Spaceman Spiff, more dinosaurs, more crazed snowmen, more water balloons, more Hobbesian philosophy. Great stuff.

Calvin and Hobbes Sunday Pages 1985-1995.
Andrews McMeel. 2001

rating : 2.5 : great stuff

A selection of 36 of the larger Sunday Pages strips, shown as the original black-and-white drawing, and the final coloured version, ranging over the entire lifetime of the marvellous strip. These come with accompanying text from Watterson, explaining both the thought processes behind the stories, and the constraints imposed by the strip format. Fascinating cartoons, and fascinating commentary -- now I understand why the top line of the earlier Sunday strips seems a little disjointed -- some papers trim that line (barbarians!), so the rest has to be independent of it.
