I've been a fan of Zach Weiner's SMBC (Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal) web comic for some time now, so when a collection came out in book form, of course I had to get it.
The cartoons in here are great, and represent the whole range of SMBC. But they feel a little ... restrained. Get the book, but to experience the full depth of Weiner's clever, weird, eclectic imagination, also try the web version.
A further collection of Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal web comic strips. Here Weiner notes that the strips are a little longer than before. I find this helps lead up to some wonderful shaggy dog punchlines. But it does mean the print is sometimes a little eyestraining (especially with the dark tones Weiner prefers). Again, the choice of strips feels a little restrained, but nevertheless there's some wonderful stuff here.
A third collection of Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal web comic strips. Here the strips are based on science and scientist-themed jokes: maths, physics, biology, engineering, all is lampooned here, with all the wonderful surreality we have come to expect from this comic. Good fun, clever stuff.
