SoundArt - Music - Compostion

Damian Murphy is an active sound artist, musician, and composer. The guitar is his first instrument and although most of his work is now developed based on digital field recordings and computer based techniques, the guitar is often the starting point or inspiration for many of the musical ideas that follow. In 2004 he was appointed as one of the UK's first AHRC/ACE Arts and Science Research Fellows, investigating the compositional and aesthetic aspects of sound spatialisation, acoustic modelling techniques and the acoustics of heritage spaces. In 2009 he collaborated on the Wellcome Trust and ACE funded project Me, Myself and MRI, resulting in a major touring exhibition of digital portraiture. In 2012 he worked on the Cultural Olympiad funded Sea Swim project - initially (and still) as a swimmer, and then as one of the contributing artists. His work has been presented in galleries nationally and at festivals and venues internationally and included varied collaborations with writers, photographers, and interactive digital artists.

Damian is a founding member of Geodesic Arts through which most of his more recent work has been produced, and you can follow him on Twitter:
