Exercise: Statins, pneumonia and confounding, 2

Question 2: What statistical method would be used for the adjustment and why?

Suggested answer

Death or admission to an intensive care unit is the outcome variable. This is a qualitative, dichotomous variable. There are only two possibilities: the patients dies or is admitted, a bad outcome, or does not die and is not admitted, a good outcome.

The correct regression method for dichotomous predictor variables is logistic regression.
