Suggested answer to exercise: Confidence intervals for mean FEV1, 4

Question 4: How do the three confidence intervals differ?

Suggested answer

The three confidence intervals can be tabulated as follows:

Confidence interval for mean FEV1 (litres)
Confidence level Lower Bound Upper Bound
95% 3.88 4.24
99% 3.82 4.30
90% 3.91 4.21

The 90% confidence interval is narrowest, the 99% confidence interval is widest.
