The figure shows a scatter plot of two pulse rates, the first measurement on the horizontal axis, the second on the vertical axis. There is a fairly strong relationship (r=0.68). The line of equality is shown at 45 degrees to the two axes.
The right hand side of the graph is shaded from first pulse = 90 beats per minute. The observed means for this subgroup are shown by a point at first = 100.2, second = 90.4.
The predicted second pulse is shown by a horizontal line at 91.2.
