Twenty pairs of monozygotic twins are recruited as part of a study of genetic influences on reading ability. The hospital consultant involved has a theory that the first born of a pair of twins will tend to out-perform the second born on a variety of measures. Accordingly, the IQ at age 8 years is compared for the first and second born in each pair of twins.
