Lecturer in Computer Science with an interest in the safety of systems which incorporate machine learnt components. I currently also have the role of Post Graduate Research Training Officer looking after the training needs of approvimately 90 PhD candidates within the department.

Research Fellow - TAS Node for Resilience
The TAS Node for Resilience considers the ability of autonomous systems to continue to perform in changing and diverse environments. My work considered the encoding of Societal, Legal, Ethical, Empathetic and Cultural Norms for autonomous systems to be deployed in environments in which their interactions with humans was central to the operation of the system.

Working as a Research Associate in the Assuring Autonomy International Programme at the University of York where my research considered techniques for the verification and assurance of artificial intelligence as deployed in critical applications.

Working on a DSTL funded project entitled "Continuous Planning of Operational Processes Applied to Non-combatant Evacuation Operations". Developing Machine Learning technologoes for the continous planning of operational processes carried out in uncertain, changing environements.

Working as a secondary school teacher in the York area teaching children between the ages of 11 and 18.

Working with organisations to implement strategic IT systems. Assignments included:

Project managing the implementation of a mobile working solution for a housing association.

Design and delivery of an online landlord accreditation system.

Specification of an on-line booking system, working alongside the internal IT department. The original project had stalled with the existing supplier and this project allowed the solution to be delivered on time and to budget.

Interim Technical Director overseeing the development of software for online training of security personnel.

Technical Director Bentley Jennison Business Solutions
Responsible for the design and development of internet based software for sale to the RSM Bentley Jennison client base. Design and management of the implementation of software for e-commerce, content management, online finance applications, action and risk tracking. Specification of a number of bespoke system developments for larger clients as well as managing development and support staff.

Woking as a consultant for clients such as Bettys and Taylors, the British Library, the North West Health Care Libraries Unit, Freeserve as well as many small to medium sized businesses.

Software Engineer Labcenter Electronics
Research, design and development of an automated component placement system for printed circuit board design. Also, the development of a multi-layer gridless autorouter using advanced search algorithms.

Post Doctoral Research Associate Leicester University
Research on multi-variable control in conjunction with GEC Alstrom. The research involved the development of mathematical models and computer simulations to improve the braking performance of rail vehicles.

Temporary sabbatical cover teaching within the school of Mathematics and Engineering. Development of software for Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms to support on going research.
