Question 4: There were 9 serious falls in the control group and 2 in the exercise group, P=0.033. What is meant by 'P=0.033'? What does it tell us about the effect of exercise on falls?
This is the result of a significance test. The probability of getting a difference in number of falls as big as this in a sample would be 0.033 if there were no difference in the population.
It tells us that there is some evidence that subjects allocated to exercise have fewer falls than subjects allocated to controls.
