Clove and Lexar Cards
So, a couple of emails, a phone call to Lexar and another to Chris Love who runs Clove Technology, has resolved the issue of speed.
Apparently, Lexar are moving to a situation where their standard cards will be 32x and their high speed cards 64x, and the latest releases of standard cards have the 32x controller. But because there are still thousands of the 32x labelled cards in the retail channel, they do not want to announce this change since it will effectively devalue those cards.
I have no reason to disbelieve Chris Love, and I was impressed by the fact he handled my worries personally. The VFSMark tests for my card are quite impressive on all counts except write speed (the benchmark for VFSMark is a Palm branded 16mb card on an m500). The only way to be sure is to get hold of one with the 32x labelling – but I don't see any way of doing that right now without ending up £70 out of pocket.
