Brief CV

I studied Physics at the RWTH Aachen in Germany. Having completed the taught part of the degree, I took the opportunity to write my diploma thesis under the auspices of NG van Kampen at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands.

In 1986 I moved to Switzerland to study for a PhD with H Thomas at the Universität Basel. As a postdoc I spent a year at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in California, collaborating with RG Littlejohn

Upon returning to the Institut für Physik in Basel, I wrote a Habilitationsschrift which I submitted in 1996 to obtain the degree of Privatdozent. From 1997 onwards I have been a visiting professor at the Université de Neuchâtel, Switzerland, closely attached to the group of H Beck

In the year 2000, I was appointed as a Reader at the University of Hull, England. Since 2005 I am working as a Reader in Mathematical Physics at the Department of Mathematics of the University of York, England.
