Fixation strategies

Fixation is the most critical phase of any histology study. Under- or over-fixation will lead to sample damage that is often unrecoverable.

The individual epitopes that antibodies recognise may be preserved or masked by different fixation strategies in an unpredictable and sometimes irretrievable fashion.

To deal with these problems, Histotech has formulated and titrated a range of fixatives for use in different situations and recommends the use of a multiple-preservation strategy to mitigate the risk of labelling failure in critical studies.
