In April 2006 it was reported that some general practitioners (GPs) receive an income of more than £250,00 per year from the National Health Service.
Following this, it was also reported that the average GP income was £94,000 per year. It is not clear whether this was the arithmetic mean or the median income.
1. What do these figures suggest about the shape of the distribution of income for GPs?
2. What would be the difference in interpretation if the average were the median rather than the arithmetic mean?
