Tarique Anwar is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) of Data Science in the Artificial Intelligence Group of the Department of Computer Science at the University of York. He has been a Gold Medalist in his undergraduate studies in computer science and applications from Jamia Millia Islamia (New Delhi, India), and obtained his PhD degree in Data Science from Swinburne University of Technology (Melbourne, Australia). In his professional career, he has previously worked as an academician and researcher at several prestigious universities and research organisations such as Swinburne University of Technology, Macquarie University, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, King Saud University, Data61, and Center of Excellence in Information Assurance. He has authored/co-authored over 40 research papers in leading international journals and conferences in the field of data science, such as IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Big Data, IEEE Transactions on Computational Social Systems, Information Systems, Information Sciences, The ACM Web Conference (WWW), and ACM CIKM. His research has won a Best Paper award in the SSDBM 2017 conference, and was one of the finalists for the ABJ70's Kikuchi-Karlaftis Best Paper award in the TRB 2016 Annual Meeting (ERA A). In his research, he works on fundamental problems, such as clustering stream data, partitioning dynamic networks, and social graph learning, as well as applied research problems for social good. His current research interest lies in the core areas of Data Science, Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, and Complex Networks, and their applications in the domains of social networks and media, mental health, and transportation networks.
