The pitch awareness task is intended to show whether an individual can recognise
an exact match in two tone rows through the use of contour and intervals or
whether they can at least recognise a similarity through shared contour. This
task concentrates on the nature of neighbouring intervals and overall contour.
Each tone row is made of notes of the same duration.
The specimens consist of the same number of tones as the test row. The initial
test and specimen rows consist of only one note, with subsequent questions
increasing the number of tones within each row by one. This continues until a
maximum of eight tones is reached.
